Snowmeggedon 2012

These last few days here in Seattle have really been trying!

First off whenever this city gets snow and ice the city shuts down. Not because we are "snow wimps" hell, I grew up in Iowa! The problem is Seattle has many hills which is nearly impossible to drive let alone walk on when covered in snow and ice.
This is enough to shut the city down.

The snow kept coming down yesterday, first it was freezing rain then it turned to snow and finally quit around 8pm.

The good news is that we will be warming up and all of it will melt.

I am thankful I live so close to my job....a 1/2 block!

I hope everyone survived the freak snow storm out there!

My holidays were not that great but it was kind of my own fault, I decided to get in a solum mood.
I found myself thinking about everything in my life over xams. I watched movies and bad tv, cleaned my place and cooked. It was nice to just chill but it was a little lonely.

I feel this New Year will bring a lot of changes in my life. I think it might be time for a change.

Christmas draws near

I am trying to make the most out of Xmas this year. I never really have been one that gets too excited about this holiday but I try to feel the spirit.
I am not going home again this year which I am dissappointed about but it is hard making rent and living on your own...gotta pay the rent.

I have pretty much gotten all the gifts done with the exception of my friends that are very hard to buy for...I always get stumped when it comes to them.

Although I wont be spending the holiday at home with the family, I will be joining a good friend and her great family. It isnt the same but these people are pretty awesome.

I am still single so not having a special someone to spend it with is a let down but whatever, it is all good. I am thankful that I am in a good place in my life and that is really all that matters.

I hope everyone out there has a wonderful holiday season!!!

New Aquarium

I got another fish aquarium last week. They had a bunch on sale and I got this 10 gallon set, which included everything but the fish and the gravel. I decided to go with a natural sand gravel which is very cool. It absorbs nitrates in the water and it has a natural look. It is very irredecent too. I got a few live plants for the tank too.
I decided to put african cichlids, they are like the finding nemo fish of the freshwater world. The cichlid group pnly lives in one lake in the world, lake Malawi in africa. They are aggresive, territorial and very lively. They are fun to watch.

My holiday was pretty awesome. I really wanted to just stay home and cook a turkey, veg out...watch movies...and just chill.
That was my original plan however a co-worker and friend invited me to her family gathering. So I went and I am glad I did.

Her family was so awesome and we all had a lot of fun and I felt like I was part of the family.
Being away from your family sucks around the holidays...even though I have gotten used to it since I havent been home in so long.

It was a great Thanksgiving and I was surrounded by great people.

I am thankful for my job, good friends, my family, and my health.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Birds of prey

I recently bought the birds of prey complete series. I had forgotten about this short lived series that was on the WB in 2003-2004. I didnt give it much of a chance. It didnt have a huge budget but it is actually kind of fun. Too bad it didnt evolve. It could have gotten a lot better.

It also includes the all the short animated skits of the Gotham girls, they are hella cute and i love the simple animation....good stuff!

The latest buzz on Madonna's new record is that there will be a collaberation with Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. I'm not too sure how I feel about this, I havent heard it yet so I wont judge, I just really had hoped she would do this one solo. The track is apperently called "Cheer" and it is rumored to be one the songs she will perform at the halftime show which is hyping to be quite a spectacle.

Fluval aquariums

These are my new aquariums I have recently bought. They are manufactured by a company named Fluval. The top is a 5 gallon tank called a Fluval chi. The design is pretty cool and the filter is like a fountain design. It gives the appearence that it is floating on the surface. The tank is very functional, and the filter pads are inexpensive. The only downside to the filter is that is does get clogged about every 3 to 4 days, not to the point that it doesnt work but it will spout and make noises. So, you have to take the filter cube out and rinse off the filter pads, put it back together and place it back in the tank. Other than that its a cool aqaurium.

The bottom picture is the Fluval edge. This is a 6.6 gallon aquarium with a view from the inside the tank from the top. The rectangle design flows and gives it a unique design.

The filter works pretty well, it is a tier system filter, filter sponge, charcol satchet and amonia pebble sachet. The charcaol needs to be replaced every 2 to 4 weeks, filter pads can be rinsed and reused up to 2 to 4 months and the ammonia pebbles replaced 3-4 months. The replacement filter accesories are inexpensive as well. This makes for a great experiance.

Growing up I was very much into aquriums and raising all kinds of fish. I havent done it for a long time so getting back into it is a lot of fun!

Apparently, according the US census bureau, I live in the most diverse zip code in the USA.
That is good to know. This fact I havent really noticed. Sure, there are all sorts of different people that live around me but never really paid much attention to it. There have been stickers that people have made and I have been noticing them around the neighborhood.

I beleive in diversity and how we should embrace it. I love the fact that I am surrounded by it.

National coming out day

It is national coming out day and yes there is a national coming out day.

To me this descion is a very personal one and nobody should be subjected to an "outing".

My coming out story was an outing in sense and I didnt deny it. I think because I was basically tired of keeping it a secret. My friends knew but my family did not. I told my mother first and it wasnt a great reaction. I moved away and kept my distance for a while.
My mother needed time to come to terms with it and eventually she came around. We have a very good relationship and she has accepted it.
To me it really wasnt a big deal now that I look back...however it was at the time.

Like they say...it gets better!

Thank god for Dan Savage creating the It gets better campaign. It gives hope to LBTG teens. That makes me very happy because a lot of us in my generation had no one to look up to. It is a wonderful thing....thank you Dan savage!

I just found out an ex and a pretty good friend got married recently. I am very happy for him and I wish him happiness, I wish that for everyone that has ever been in my life.
I just can't help but think about my happiness. I am happy, there are some wonderful things in my life but I would be lying if I didn;t say I get lonely sometimes.
I keep thinking about this view certain people have, that we only get one or two true loves in our lifetime. I had 2 and they escaped me. Not to mention the passionate affairs that just got way too strong to sustain.

I am starting to believe this theory of only having these limited true love meetings.
However, who knows what tomorrow brings...I am going with the flow and just trying everyday to grow as a person and experiance what life has to offer...I really need an adventure!!!

My aquarium

I just got this Fluval edge aquarium a few weeks ago. I have been eyeing it for a while now and I am so glad I got it. It is only a 6 gallon tank but it is so cute and I love the design of it. I have 2 fantail goldfish, 2 corey catfish, a pair of fantail guppies, 2 mystery snails (not sure what the hell the mystery is supposed to be...) and a placostomus. I am trying to find a frog but still no luck.

I went to Chinatown looking for an aquarium store off the beaten path of Petco and Petsmart.
I found the cutest shop in an alley in chinatown. There was stuff everywhere in this little shop and the owner was a nice older chinese man. He told me they took his frogs away and he couldn't sell them anymore. He said they didn't give him a reason why...I found that a little odd.

I just started watching this show, I love the paranormal and pretty much watch all the ghost hunter shows. The main guy Zak Bagans is not only HOT as hell...he is a real cool guy. He takes more of a kick ass approach to his investigations and it is damn cool.

Nicole "Kole" Hansen is a muscian from Autin texas who has performed in Austin city limits, a PBS showcasing new music. Sge is a relatively new artist and she is pretty good.
She played at our restaurant last week and it was cool she did it. I talked to her after their set was done and she told me that it was great she got to play in Seattle. She was very sweet and gave me a downlaod card for an EP on Cdbaby.com

I am doing laundry today, cleaning my place from top to bottom.

I'm pretty stoked that I actually have today and tomorrow off which never happens in my business.

It's been hot lately in the NW, we had a shitty ass summer so I think the weather is going to carry over into the fall which is cool. We get spoiled by the mild temps here and when it gets above 80 we think were dying...jeez.

I am supposed to meet up with a guy tonight but not sure if I'm in the mood.

Hopefully this week or next I am going on a road trip with a good friend, I really can't wait, I've been urban locked for a long time and its definitely getting to me. I need some nature, DAMN!

MTV is 30. I loved it the first 20 years, now the channel is dead to me...I mean do they even play videos or anything to do with music now? It has become this reality channel for teens and early twenties. It is quite sad actually that they have forgotten their original concept but whatevz I guess thats what youtube and the net is for.

I grew up with this channel when it was exciting and new. To me that is pretty cool but things change and now I don't give MTV a second look.

Congress is thinking about cutting free tv to every American. Sure, most can find other ways to get TV, such as the internet, however people with not much money would be deprived of this basic right to be informed and entertained. I for one would HATE to see PBS go, I love it. Free HD would also go away and for those with the HD antenna know what I mean.

Here is a "rumour" report on the next Madge album...

During pre-production of the new album a Madonna/Gaga collaboration or Madonna singing a song written by Gaga was being considered, but all was put aside when Madonna refused to do it because too many other artists had already done similar things.
Madonna then wanted her daughter Lourdes to be part of the project writing some lyrics, which was also put aside so as not to make the album sound teenagey.
Rumours of a release in November are getting stronger and stronger, so first official news about the album may be coming in August or September.
Ideas for a very strong promotion are in the works, involving social networks such as Facebook and brands such as Apple (it might have something to do with the iPhone 5 release which is reportedly scheduled for November).
Four songs have been recorded so far. Reportedly, one of them is a demo track from the American Life/Confessions On A Dance Floor sessions. The first single, which is thought to be released one week before the album, hasn't been recorded yet.
Works in the recording studio will be over in late September.

Yes Gaga is everywhere and she is blowing up, she is not of Madonna status yet but she is right behind. I think she is very cool, I am not a huge fan but I dig her.

My fave song on her new record is this track...Government hooker, its pretty brilliant actually....take a listen....LOUDLY

Her latest vid, Edge of glory...I am liking the song the more I hear it, the video is pretty cool...

Here is a cool video made for this track as well, minus the Gaga and with a plot....worth watching...

'Knowing you are a huge Madonna fan I was wondering what in particular about Angel made you want to cover the song?'
It was one of the first records I ever bought and one of the first songs I wish I'd written. As a kid - without much money and with nothing but a pocket full of dreams - I would imagine that it was me up there singing. The 12inch version especially cast a spell on me.
It was a pivotal time in my life when I started to realise that this is what I wanted to do for a living.
As an adult with my own career, recording a cover version 'Angel' was like coming full circle. Like a Virgin is still one of my favourite Madonna albums and 'Angel' remains probably my favourite Madonna song of all time.

It's funny to me that Madonna has'nt performed this song since 1985's Virgin tour, it has always been one of my fave songs from her...
There was never a music video for this song but it was released as a double single with Into the Groove...remember this? I still own this record and I remember everyone had it, ahhh memories of the 80's...

This my friends is an electric fly swatter and I love it. I don't have screens on my windows so somethimes these little bastards get in so I got this, it takes 2 d batteries and zaps the shit out of flying insects. The fun is trying to get em and when you do it sparks. Fun as hell! The only bad thing is sometimes they fly off the grid and you have to look for them on the floor, whatevz it's entertaing, he he!

Texting while walking

They have passed a law in Philadelphia making texting while walking iilegal, I think this would definitely apply to me as I dont drive and find myself texting or on my phone while walking. Hell I even experiance sidewalk rage while I am trying to weave around very slow people. I have always walked fast, I think it's because I am a little short and don't have long legs. Even my tall friends are always like, why are you walking so fast? Ha ha

Death of the book store

First it was the record store, now we have another casualty of online business, the book store. I think it's a little sad. I love the convienance of ordering online, don't get me wrong but there is something to be said about going into a store finding and holding physichal books, records. You have a file on your computer via online, nothing tangebale and it almost cold and unfeeling.

I guess this is where we are headed but I don't have to like it.

I just got through with 2nd season of this show. It was a little slow moving at first but it sucked me in. I believe HBO has halted further production of the series which sucks. The ending has me confused and a little irritated. I hope they continue it someday, I want answers! LOL

Has anyone out there watched it?

They are returning soon with a new album and tour this year. They are playing the decibal festival here in Seattle, not sure if I will attend, I have seen Ladytron twice.

Bjork returns with a new album called "Biophilia" and apparently she has invented a new instrument as well. From what I have sampled from the new stuff is haunting vocals and strange eeerie music. It's typical of the direction she has taken and to me nothing exciting. I respect Bjork but lately here music has gotten very boring...

Kylie Aphrodite concert in SF

I finally got to see Kylie in concert in San Fransico, it was my first time in SF and we had an amzing weekend! It was great getting out of Seattle for a while and Kylie was AMAZING! The crowd loved it too and you could tell she was blown away by the love. She is so sweet and humble, Kylie you are wonderful!!!
